Protecting our blue planet and the life within 🌊🌎

Today is . A day to come together in protecting our blue planet. The ocean covers about 70% of Earth and provides us with countless benefits such as climate regulation, transportation, food, medicine, recreation and so much more. Corals contribute to much of these benefits. 🪸 Often called the lungs of our oceans, they act as filters, absorbing carbon-dioxide and releasing oxygen. They also act as a nursery for approximately 25% of marine species, imperative for food security and medical breakthroughs.

As we celebrate our ocean today, we also wrap up a week of birthday celebrations. 🎂🎉 SECORE’s birthday week started on June 1st with a toast from our Founder, Dr. Dirk Petersen. It is only fitting that we conclude this week of celebrating SECORE, with a final message from him.

One billion people depend on coral reefs—their protection and restoration help coastal communities mitigate the effects of climate change, to which they are particularly vulnerable.
