ViroTCell es un medicamento de terapia celular para tratar infecciones por virus, que fabrica el Banco de Sangre y Tejidos. El tratamiento se obtiene de donantes seleccionados a los que se les extrae un tipo de defensas (glóbulos blancos), los linfocitos T, capaces de luchar contra el virus CMV, que se infunden al paciente.

Por el contrario, es algo más excepcional que el ViroTCell sea usado en pacientes trasplantados de órgano sólido como es el caso de la paciente de Bellvitge, ya que, en estos casos, la inmunosupresión no es tan prolongada en el tiempo y no se suelen producir tantas infecciones.
