Jay Usseglio, MPH, the Education and Outreach Librarian at the Calder Library presented a poster at the Innovations in Medical Education Conference (https://buff.ly/bchKyvK) on March 26, 2026. The poster was entitled "Medical Student Assessment of Evidence-Based Practice Search Strategies in a Library Instructions Session: Evaluating Published, Generative AI, and Peer Techniques", and was the result of the work and collaboration of the entire Learning, Research, and Clinical Information Services (LRCIS) Department. The poster was well received and generated conversation about the role of medical librarians in medical education, highlighting the use of emerging technologies and importance of encouraging critical thinking in instruction sessions. Thank you Professor Usseglio and LRCIS team for a job well done! https://buff.ly/y4GODqt

The Louis Calder Memorial Library at the University of Miller School of Medicine hosted a book talk by Dr. Sarah El-Yaman for her new book, Moms in Medicine: Navigating Mental Health Challenges. Dr. El-Yaman, a Third-Year Fellow in the Department of Pediatric Endocrinology at the University of Miami / Jackson Health System, led a lively discussion about burnout, chronic stress, and the pressures unique to physician mothers, nurses, and other medical professionals. Her talk highlighted practical, evidence-informed strategies to support mental well-being, set boundaries, and promote long-term sustainability in medical careers. Held on January 14, 2026, and open to the public, attendees joined in person at the Calder Library as well as online via Zoom. Three signed copies of Dr. El-Yaman’s book were given away in a raffle for the in-person attendees. We invite you to watch the recording of Dr. El-Yaman’s important and timely talk and ensuing group discussion.
