Most people think pouring self-leveler is the hard part, but any pro will tell you: the prep work is where the magic happens. If you don't prep correctly, your self-leveling compound will either crack, bubble, or leak right out of the room.
Here is exactly how we prepped this subfloor to ensure a perfectly flat, durable finish:
Step 1: Deep Clean 🧹 We vacuumed the entire perimeter and floor to get rid of every spec of dust. If there's dust, the leveler won't bond to the concrete.
Step 2: Seal the Gaps 💨 We used spray foam along the bottom edges of the walls. Why? Self-leveler flows like water—if you don't seal the edges, it will leak through the drywall and into neighboring rooms!
Step 3: Prime Time 🟣 We coated the subfloor with a quality primer. This prevents the porous concrete from sucking the water out of the self-leveler too quickly, allowing it to flow and self-level perfectly.
Step 4: The Right Product 📦 We loaded up on MAPEI Self-Leveler Plus. It’s easily one of the best products on the market to get everything dead-flat and ready for tile, vinyl, or wood in just 24 hours.
