2024 Miami Artist Census 01/15/2025

Census is a data research initiative that will identify and map the needs of Miami-based artists. Made for artists by artists, the county-wide data project will collect information that can be used to lead advocacy for artists. We hope the research can affect public and private funders allocation of funding for local artists, and provide public officials with the data needed to support policies responding to artists’ needs. Furthermore, it will give artists, art institutions, researchers, and the public, a clearer picture of what today’s Miami artist community looks like for years to come.

The problem today is that society often expects women to have children, but fails to acknowledge the immense value that they add to society through this role. Women who choose to focus on raising children are frequently not compensated or recognized for their contributions, even though this is one of the most important and demanding times in their lives.

During this period, women are often required to put aside their careers and personal interests to devote full attention to their children. However, this invaluable work is seldom acknowledged or respected. Women are made to feel that they are a burden on their families, when in reality, they are adding immense value and worth to the family unit.

This sacrifice and contribution from women needs to be better recognized and compensated. Society must evolve to truly value the role of women, not just in the workforce, but in raising the next generation. Only then will we create an environment where women feel supported and empowered to have children, rather than feeling forced or burdened by it.

A healthy society requires a balance where women's choices are respected, and their contributions to child-rearing and the family are appropriately acknowledged and rewarded. This shift in mindset is crucial for ensuring a thriving, sustainable future.
