Three Events Going Down This Week!!!
1. Free Gun Class this Sunday
This Sunday, April 13, at 1pm, at our Miami gym, we're going to hold a free gun training seminar about how to use a gun, safety and regulations. This course is designed for NEWBIES.
We will be covering the basics of the different kinds of fi****ms, how to load, grip, aim, and fire your firearm, how to keep the gun safe in your home, how to clean your gun, and other important safety procedures.
The class will be about an hour long. You do NOT need to own a firearm - and if you do own one, do NOT bring it. The classroom will have no fi****ms or live ammo. We will be training with props.
2. Concealed Gun Permit Class this Sunday
If you would like to get your concealed weapons permit, after the free course, you can stick around and we will do another hour of training to meet the training requirement for concealed weapons permit. For the concealed weapons permit course, it is only $59.
That being said, the concealed weapons portion is optional - you can attend and do just the free training portion without having to buy or sign anything... totally 100% free!
3. Weekly Gun Class and Monthly Shooting Club
The Freestyle Fighting Academy and its team of NRA certified firearm instructors have formed a new club, called Miami Shooting Club, which will conduct weekly classes at FFA on Wednesdays at 6:30pm. The class will be an hour long, weekly personal protection class that will include, but not be limited to:
Firearm Safety Pistol
Rifle
Shotgun
Protection Inside the Home (versus home invasion)
Protection Outside the Home (concealed carry)
Protection from Inside Your Car
Close Quarter Combat (with pistol and rifle)
Gun and Knife Disarms
Knife Fighting Tactics
Along with the weekly classes, we will have one live fire day at a private tactical range that we have reserved for the first Sunday of every month from 3pm to 5pm. We will practice at FFA throughout the week and go live, safely, at the range. Live fire is optional but recommended.
To jump on this, message me back with your name and phone number to reserve a spot. It is limited availability. You can also email [email protected] or call FFA at 305-225-4610. You can also reserve spots for your friends. They can check out the website at www.FreeGunCourse.com
Free Miami Gun Training and Concealed Weapons Course | Free Weekly Gun Classes in Miami and CCW Hello, my name is Marcos Avellan, Head Instructor of Gun Training For Newbies. I’m a retired professional fighter, martial arts black belt, self-defense expert, NRA certified fi****ms instructor, and have been training self-defense for close to twenty years. Having been shot at and having been the...

Question for everyone... what do you consider "self defense"? Do you truly consider the average martial arts instructor a true "self defense" expert? I personally don't. Don't get me wrong, the average martial arts instructor can whoop the butt of the average guy in a street fight - but is that what most people envision when talking about "self defense"?
Personally... I think 99% of the street fights I've heard people get into could have been avoided with verbal judo or simply walking away...
For me... self defense means being able to defend yourself potentially life threatening situation (a situation you can't walk away from). A life or death situation COULD be striking and grappling... it COULD be versus multiple opponents... it COULD be me unarmed versus an armed attacker... it COULD be me armed with a knife or gun... and it could be from my bed, in my car, or at a club... With all the respect for martial arts instructors, I don't think the average BJJ or MMA instructor is prepared or capable of teaching others how to prevail in the majority of the situations I just described. They are super prepared for a bare knuckle fight versus a single opponent - and some versus multiple unarmed opponents. As Americans, we live in the most heavily armed country in the world - shouldn't "self defense" take into account fi****ms?
BJJ and MMA guys - am I wrong?
What do you consider "self defense"?
I'm moving hard and fast towards being a Personal Protection Instructor - because the sort of training I'm doing and teaching isn't the same "self defense" most of my peers are teaching and I need to shake myself loose from this label.
Freestyle Fighting Academy students, next Saturday, April 5th, 1:30pm, we will be teaching an anti-vehicular ambush / anti-car jacking seminar at our Miami location. We will be using fake plastic guns - but the strategies will be 100% real. For CAP and Bootcamp Elite members, the seminar is free. For MMA and Bootcamp beginners, the event is $15. For non-members, it is $25. With each reserved spot, you can bring in a spouse or friend for free. ZERO experience is required - a basic fi****ms class will be taught for beginners as well.
Certified NRA instructors Devin Genchi, Vicky Fernandez, Kevin Perez, Donald Linneman, and myself will be teaching the seminar. The techniques from this particular seminar we learned from our recent week long trip to Asymmetric Solutions where we got to train under former military such as Green Berets, Navy Seals, and other incredibly skillful and badass individuals. Now we are bringing the knowledge to our students in Miami.
If you would like to reserve a spot at the seminar, message me with your name and phone number. You could also email me your name and phone to [email protected] or call FFA at 305-225-4610.
At the seminar, we'll also share more info about our new weekly personal protection class that we'll be conducting at FFA which will include, but not be limited to, basic pistol, rifle, shotgun, vehicular defense, close quarter battle (clearing rooms, etc.), weapon disarms (versus guns and knifes), knife fighting, and much more. We will have a weekly class at FFA and one live fire day at a private tactical range that we have reserved for the first Sunday of every month. We will practice at FFA throughout the week and go live, safely, at the range. Live fire is optional but recommended.
Here is a sample of the sort of training we will practice next Saturday (without the live fire) and down the road, with enough training, we may do this with live fire: http://youtu.be/ly2gATseaMw
We are also planning another group trip to Missouri to train with Asymmetric - if you are interested in that too, message me as well.
"Like" if you dig FFA's "Personal Protection" push and/or drop a comment and let me know what you think "self defense" should be.
