Some of America's most important landmarks preserve the stories that define our history.
As the nation continues to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, we're thrilled to celebrate the Museum of African American History - Boston and Nantucket and its remarkable team following the recognition of the African Meeting House as one of the World Monuments Fund's 10 "Irreplaceable America" sites.
Built in 1806, the African Meeting House is the oldest surviving Black church in the United States. It served as the heart of Boston's free Black community and played a pivotal role in the abolitionist movement, hosting community gatherings, educational programs, and speeches by some of the nation's most influential advocates for freedom and equality.
Today, the African Meeting House continues that mission through the Museum of African American History, helping preserve and interpret a vital chapter of American history for future generations.
At Fortress, we believe preservation is about more than protecting objects. It is about safeguarding the places, stories, and cultural legacy that help us better understand our country’s history.
Cheers to the Museum of African American History and everyone whose dedication made this well-deserved recognition possible.
Plan a visit to experience this extraordinary landmark and the stories it continues to tell.

As the United States marks its 250th anniversary this week, museums across the country are reflecting on the many ways art helps tell the American story 🇺🇸
We're pleased to see our friends at the Museum of Art and Design at MDC presenting "Abstraction as Legacy," an exhibition that explores the evolution of American abstract painting and the artists who redefined the possibilities of the medium.
Featuring works by artists including Sam Gilliam, Carmen Herrera, Hans Hofmann, Joan Mitchell, Willem de Kooning, George Morrison, and Vaughn Spann, the exhibition highlights the innovation and diverse artistic voices that have shaped abstraction in the United States.
As we celebrate America 250, exhibitions like this remind us that preserving and sharing our cultural heritage extends beyond historic documents and monuments—it also includes the artworks that continue to shape our understanding of the nation's creative legacy.
If you're in Miami, we encourage you to visit "Abstraction as Legacy," on view at the Freedom Tower through October 18th.

Safeguarding collections onboard a yacht starts long before they're at risk. 🌊
As yacht interiors become increasingly sophisticated, protecting what's onboard requires more than planning for the vessel alone. Fine art, bespoke furnishings, collectibles, and commissioned pieces often move between residences, storage facilities, and shipyards throughout the year, making coordinated logistics and insurance essential.
That's why advance planning matters. Understanding how coverage applies during transit, storage, refits, and seasonal moves can help avoid costly surprises, while professional handling and secure storage provide an added layer of protection when valuable items need to come ashore.
“Many clients believe their valuables are automatically covered wherever they go, but that’s not always the case—especially when items are moved between a residence and a vessel or stored onboard for extended periods.” — Joe Young, One Insurance Services
Whether preparing for a scheduled refit, a major interior redesign, or seasonal transitions, the strongest protection strategies are proactive, not reactive.

As the Newport Charter Yacht Show brings the yachting industry together this week, we're highlighting a side of yacht ownership that often operates behind the scenes: collection stewardship.
Today's yachts frequently house fine art, bespoke furnishings, collectibles, and commissioned design pieces that require the same level of care and protection as those found in exceptional private residences. Yet managing collections aboard a vessel presents unique logistical challenges.
Artwork and furnishings may need to be removed during refits and renovations, stored during seasonal transitions, transported between residences and vessels, or received and coordinated prior to installation onboard. These projects often involve marinas, shipyards, dry dock facilities, crew schedules, and restricted access points—environments that require specialized expertise.
For more than 40 years, Fortress has provided museum-quality storage, transportation, packing, crating, and installation services for high-value collections. From our Boston facility, we are uniquely positioned to support Newport and the broader New England yachting community, helping owners, captains, designers, and yacht managers navigate complex collection projects with discretion and care.
Services include: Artwork and furnishing removal during refits and renovations, secure transportation between vessel and storage, receiving and storage of new acquisitions, climate-controlled private storage, custom packing and crating, condition documentation and oversight, and reinstallation upon project completion.
Whether preparing for a redesign, dry dock period, or seasonal transition, our goal remains the same: ensuring collections receive the same level of protection ashore as they do at sea.
