A look back at a very special hunt from two years ago where this young man, shot his first goose. I had scouted for a couple days and located a few flocks of geese using this particular pond as a day roost. The difficulty with the setup was the hide. The farmers cows had mowed the grass down to short stubble providing absolutely no cover. So we improvised! We basically created our own cover. We brushed the blinds and then stuck any local bushes we could find in an attempt to break up the outline of the blinds. Therefore creating the impression that we were just a clump of overgrown grass and bushes. I set the decoys in front of us and off to the side to keep the birds eyes away from the blinds as much as possible. This created the perfect side shoot! The trap was set! And judging by the pictures, I’d say it worked.
