Not every act of service happens in the spotlight.
At our Annual Meeting, the Northern Middlesex YMCA was honored to present our 2026 Community Impact Award to the Middletown Police Department for years of partnership, compassion, and unwavering support.
Many people know the YMCA as a place for families, fitness, and youth programs. Fewer know that it's also home to 60 men living in our Schwarz Residence for Men.
When difficult moments arise, Middletown Police officers consistently respond with professionalism, patience, empathy, and respect. They don't simply answer calls—they build relationships, de-escalate crises, and treat every individual with dignity.
Their quiet commitment has made a lasting impact on our residents, our staff, and our entire YMCA community.
Congratulations and thank you to the officers and leadership of the Middletown Police Department for helping create a safer, stronger, and more caring community.

Did you know Father’s Day was founded at the YMCA? In 1910, Sonora Smart Dodd held the very first Father’s Day celebration at the Spokane YMCA to honor her dad - a single father who raised six
children. Her love for her father sparked a national tradition that we still celebrate today! Today, we continue to celebrate and support fathers, father figures and families of all kinds - building strong communities together. , from our Y family to yours!

CONNECTION IS THE KEY to a Healthy Summer. Summer break can be a fun and relaxing time. But for many kids, the change in routine, having less time with friends, and being away from school supports can feel really hard. Staying connected is essential for a healthy and safe summer.
Youth who feel connected are more likely to thrive, now and in the future. Use this summer as an opportunity to build and strengthen your child’s connections. Don’t let them spend their summer alone!
To help promote these important connections, the Connecticut State Department of Education, in collaboration with the Connecticut Department of Children and Families, developed the "Connection is Key" flyer to remind families of the vital role connection plays in supporting youth mental health and well-being.
