John Monstro - Patient Number 9 (Ozzy Osbourne Cover - Piano) 08/22/2024

The full video of my Ozzy Osbourne live piano cover "PATIENT NUMBER 9" up on youtube now! Go SUBSCRIBE to the channel if you haven't yet, every bit helps and I've sort of neglected my youtube page for a while. Got a lot of videos to upload that I never bothered with so there will be new content coming throughout the rest of the year.

OZZY OSBOURNE has been one of my favorite artists and a big influence musically so I was over the moon when "ORDINARY MAN" came out, even more surprised and elated to hear he'd be following it up so quickly with "PATIENT NUMBER 9" which was even better (IMO). I had almost given up hope for more material from him considering we hadn't heard anything new since 2010's Scream. The desire to play this song and having no active band to bring it to at the time made me wonder how I could bring the same theatrical energy I'd do with a 4pc rock band to the most stripped down version, which led to the realization of how I would approach it for other piano arrangements...

the Beatles interpolation was just a cherry on top. Turns out when you strip music down to its most basic building blocks a lot of songs can bleed right into each other seamlessly. The bleak lyrical change came about from my own frustrations and observations. Whether the read is sneering or sympathetic changes from performance to performance but it's hard not to feel contempt at times when looking outwards at the state of things and wondering with a heavy heart... why?

"I look at this world, and I see that it's burning
I'm on the edge of my seat
I look at our lives all this hate, all this yearning
How can you stand there and weep?"
