When America celebrates its 250th anniversary on July 4, there’s one founder you won’t see lauded alongside Washington, Jefferson, and Hamilton: James Wilson, a Scottish-born lawyer, signer of the Declaration of Independence, framer of the Constitution, and early Supreme Court justice who inspired the words “all men are created equal.” In the new book, "The Lost Founder: James Wilson and the Forgotten Fight for a People’s Constitution," journalist and author Jesse Wegman ’96 brings Wilson back into the conversation, examining his bold ideas and prescient vision of American democracy as our nation faces unprecedented political strain.
