💜 Stand Up Against Elder Abuse — Awareness Matters 💜
Today, Senior Life Midland staff wore purple to recognize World Elder Abuse Awareness Day! We are dedicated to raising awareness, protecting our seniors, and reminding our community that every older adult deserves to live with dignity, respect, and safety.
Elder abuse can happen in many forms, and knowing the signs can help protect those who may be vulnerable.
🚨 Signs of Abuse may include:
• Unexplained scratches, cuts, bruises, burns, broken bones, or bedsores
• Physical restraint or confinement
• Sexual abuse or misconduct
• Verbal, emotional, or psychological abuse
💔 Signs of Neglect may include:
• Malnutrition, dehydration, or unexplained weight loss
• Over- or under-medication
• Unsafe or unsanitary living conditions
• Lack of personal hygiene
• No access to basic needs such as heat, running water, electricity, or medical care
⚠️ Signs of Exploitation may include:
• Missing money, property, or personal belongings
• Misuse of Social Security or SSI benefits
• Unauthorized use of bank accounts or financial resources
• Taking advantage of an older adult for personal or financial gain

Many older adults and individuals with disabilities may become isolated, ill, or unable to meet their own basic needs without support. A simple conversation, a caring check-in, or reporting a concern to the right authorities can make a life-changing difference.
