Happy 250th birthday to the USA!
Did you know that libraries were here in North America before the United States existed? The first lending library was established in Philadelphia by Benjamin Franklin in 1731, and it required a paid membership.
The first free library in Wisconsin was built in Black River Falls, in 1872. The first free library in Milwaukee County was the Milwaukee Public Library, which opened its doors in 1878.
