Every inspection I do I talk to clients about water management and how the homes priority is to manage water appropriately. Well today I get to help my own home manage water appropriately by pumping the 40” of melted snow from the house.

Keeping with the theme of warmer weather it’s a good time to do a walk around of your home which the snow melting off the roof. It’s a good opportunity to inspect your gutters from the ground. You can identify leaks in your gutter system or a clogged gutter system. Both are important when we talk about how your home manages water shed!

With all the melting snow and freezing temps North Dakotans have to battle the ice buildup on driveways and sidewalks. The best option is to try and make it so the melting water has a place to drain away from walk ways. The chloride salts contained in ice melt can weaken the structural integrity of concrete and cause unsightly spalling and remove the top layer of concrete.

With warmer weather headed our way and with temps going above and below freezing something you want to be on the lookout for us ice dams. One of if not the most important part of how a home functions is it’s ability to shed or manage water. Ice dams can disrupt this process and you could end up with unwanted moisture inside your home.
