Before Airbnb and boutique stays, there was the Fontana Motor Hotel—a dazzling slice of mid-century modern right off Highway 83 in Mission. Built around 1958, this roadside gem was known for its terrazzo floors, hexagonal pool, and that unforgettable neon sign 🌟

From air-conditioned rooms and 24-hour switchboard service to being “the cleanest and friendliest in the Valley,” Fontana was the spot for travelers and locals alike through the ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s.

By the early 2000s, the hotel was gone.
