First cochlear implant at Dauphin West Surgical Center! We had excellent post insertion testing with the SmartNav system, which points towards an excellent outcome with hearing. For appropriately selected patients, cochlear implant surgery at DWSC is very safe, convenient, and efficient. We look forward to more CIs there!

2 months after minimally invasive parathyroidectomy! Localizing imaging allows for a small incision and an easy recovery. This patient also was diligent about daily silicone scar tape. Her PTH has gone from 93 to 36, which should decrease further bone loss in her osteoporosis, and reduce risk of future kidney stones (2 prior kidney stones).

Excellent early outcome for Mr. Wilber! The audiogram shows hearing before surgery in grey, with residual natural hearing after surgery in red. The blue shows his hearing with the cochlear implant. With the residual low frequency hearing, he can use a hearing aid as part of the cochlear implant receiver. This gives him more natural sound. Pre-op CNC word score was 30%, and he is now at 42% just 17 days after activation. Credit to him for working so diligently with his aural rehabilitation. We are excited to see how he progresses with his hearing continues to improve with time.

Exciting day today! OR morning consisted of right thyroid goiter removal for compressive symptoms and parathyroidectomy for hyperparathyroidism (final PTH 33). Clinic this afternoon then included cochlear implant activation for Miesha, who has enlarged vestibular aqueduct syndrome!
