I get asked questions all the time about "is this an original or a fake" whether it is a bronze or a painting. I am not an expert but I have studied and collected Re*****on for over 25 years. When it comes to the bronze works, I would highly recommend you pick up a copy of a book called "The Bronze World of Frederic Re*****on" by Bruce Wear (mine is signed by the author). Beginning with Chapter IV, the book delves extensively in how to detect a real sculpture vs a fake and talks about authentic replicas as well. You can get reissues of the book fairly cheap. It is a great addition to your bookshelf. K

From Re*****on's late years and the nocturnes:
Shotgun Hospitality - also appears as Shot-gun Hospitality based on notes in Re*****on's diary
1908 - oil on canvas
Was displayed at Knoedlers Gallery in 1908 who sold it to Judge Horace Russell who later gifted it to Hood Museum of Art.
It appeared in the September 17, 1910 edition of Collier's Weekly, after Re*****on's death.

One of the books in my collection that I am so blessed to have. Bought it clear back in 2003. I paid pretty good money for it but well worth it.
Mexico of Today by Solomon Buckley Griffin
1886
The editor of the Springfield Republican spent an extended vacation in Mexico in 1885 and sent home to his newspaper a series of letters later republished as this book.
There are 24 illustrations in the book, one by Frederic Re*****on, which marks the first appearance of an illustration by Re*****on in a book.
Because NONE of the illustrations are credited, I think it has gone unnoticed. there are early editions for sale right now pretty cheap. I have half a mind to buy them and "flip" them.
Enjoy!

The Bronze World of Frederic Re*****on
by Bruce Wear (1966)
This book is an amazing reference for those into Re*****on's bronzes. Wear gives wonderful descriptions with each pic/plate/photo - over 50.
My edition happens to be inscribed and signed. Unfortunately, someone let their child scribble all over the front fly paper, front and back but it's a keeper anyway.
Enjoy!
