The Modesto Junior College Department of Music presents

FAR-OUT FREQUENCIES

ELECTRONIC MUSIC CONCERT

Wednesday April 01, 2026 at 7:00 pm
MJC Planetarium – West Campus
In the Great Valley Museum

The concert will feature original electronic music compositions created by student composers from the Modesto Junior College Music Technology Program and member of the MJC Electronic Music Club. The student composers featured will be Dave Bracer, Kit Barrita-Perez, Luis Campos-Garcia, Alfonzo Gomez Rendon, Lisette Hernandez, Robert Hill, Andrew La Plante, Viet Le, Ivan Mariscal, Cole Nykoluk, Kyle Sanchez, Nathan Villarreal, Christopher Walker and Julian Zavala will be created using computers, synthesizers, samplers and digital effects. Some of the compositions will be live performances while some are pre-recorded. Visuals will be presented project on the planetarium dome. MJC Music Technology Director, David Dow, will also present an original electronic music composition.

The concert is free and available to the public. Donations are accepted.

The Modesto Junior College Department of Music presents

THE 48TH ANNUAL NEW MUSIC CONCERT

The concert will take place on Friday April 11, 2025 at 7:00 pm in the Modesto Junior College Performing and Media Arts Center Main Stage. The program will feature performances of original music compositions by student, faculty and local composers.

The award winning compositions and performances from the 48th Annual MJC Celebration of the Humanities student arts award contest will be performed. The Classical Music, Popular Music, Electronic Music Composition, Classical Music Solo Performance and Popular Music Solo Performance categories will be presented and awarded.

Jeff Crawford, music instructor at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA will perform his latest electronic music composition.

The music of South Korean composer Gregory Kim will be presented. He is a professor at Keimyung University in Daegu South Korea.

Singer, songwriter and guitarist Rich Little will perform two original music compositions.

MJC Professor, David Dow, will perform his original electronic music composition “Moments Between Thoughts”.

Teá Noelle will present two original music compositions.

The New Music Ensemble will perform an original group improvisation.

The New Music Concert was founded 48 years ago as a collaborative effort between MJC music instructor emeritus, Shirley Woodward and MJC music instructor David Dow to encourage students and faculty to create and perform new music. After creating the music, students would be able to enter their works in “The Manuscript Madness” composition contest and win cash prizes. The Manuscript Madness competition later became a part of the MJC Celebration of the Humanities Contest that is still going strong today.

The concert is coordinated and hosted by MJC music instructor David Dow. The concert is open to the public. Admission is free.

The composers featured will be Eva Ascencio, Aaron Barajas, Eloy Bazan, Daniel Castillo, Carlos Galindo, Ryan Gurule, Raul Moreno, Cole Nykoluk, Beau Olthof, Diana Olthof, Magdalena Rojas and Chris Walker. The music will be created using computers, synthesizers, samplers and digital effects. Some of the compositions will be live performances while some are pre-recorded. The MJC Music Technology Director, David Dow, will also present an original electronic music composition.
The concert is free and available to the public.
