Announcing the new US Postal Service Next Generation Delivery Vehicle (NGDV)

The USPS has finally awarded, after a six year process, a $485-million contract for 50,000 to 165,000 vehicles over 10 years to Oshkosh Defense, of Wisconsin. The first vehicles are expected to be delivering mail by 2023. Replacing the 25 year old fleet of Grumman LLV or “Long Life Vehicle,” the NGDVs were designed to have similar longevity. The platform will have the flexibility to be built new with either flex-fuel or electric powertrains and the ability to be converted at a later date. The new vans will have greater cargo space for packages, modern safety equipment including airbags, backup cameras, and proximity sensors, and a few creature comforts like air conditioning.
