Dual Spring Replacement.

Old springs were not correct IPPT (inch pounds per turn). This caused the door to be heavy which results with more stress on the opener. As you can see in the picture, of the new springs installed, there are 7 hash lines on each spring. This is because there is one full turn for each foot of the door height with standard lift tracks. This was a 16’x7’ garage door. There would be 8 hash lines if it were an 8’ high door with a standard track system.

To know if you have the correct springs installed is to manually release your door and do the balance test. Bring each panel into the radius/curve of the track and let go. Your door should stay were you left it. If your door lowers or raises on its own at any point and there are more (or less) hash lines than foot height or the door, then it is more than likely the incorrect size springs were installed. If there doors is slightly heavy then the springs can be adjusted to relieve some of the stress on the opener.
