As temperatures rise, prolonged exposure to heat can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, and even death. Watch for warning signs, including nausea, headache, dizziness, confusion, and a rapid or irregular pulse.

A few simple habits can make all the difference:
- Stay hydrated with water throughout the day. Don't wait until you feel thirsty. Avoid sugary or alcoholic drinks that cause your body to lose more fluid.

- Stay in air conditioning as much as possible during peak heat hours, and check on elderly neighbors, family members, and those who live alone.

- Never leave children or pets in a parked car. Temperatures inside a vehicle can climb to dangerous levels within minutes, even with windows cracked.

- Know the signs of heat-related illness and when to call 911. Your life, or someone else's, could depend on it.
