There are SO MANY myths out there about stuttering and we wanted to talk about a few of them during National Stuttering Awareness Week.

Bilingualism causes stuttering

Stuttering is a habit

Stuttering is caused by nervousness

What myths do you wish people would understand are NOT true?

Should we avoid the topic of stuttering with kids? The short answer is no.🚫

Talking about stuttering is helpful. Confusion and shame can increase when the topic is avoided. When adults speak openly and neutrally about stuttering, children learn that it is acceptable to talk about how they feel and to stutter without fear.

It’s National Stuttering Awareness Week!

We know so much more about stuttering now than we ever have, but there are still so many myths and misconceptions surrounding stuttering. This week gives us the opportunity to increase awareness and advocate for the stuttering community.
