Five Years of Innovation Adventures

In 2014, UCLA gave a test-drive to a new Center that was to explore how technology was impacting how we create, connect, and collaborate around music. Now, in 2020, these efforts have brought forth four years of the “Innovating Music” podcast, a monthly enewsletter, new UCLA classes, research with partners, and events in UCLA and around the world.

Mission

We explore the impact of technology-driven disruption and innovation on music and social systems. These innovations affect how we live and create.

We work with collaborators to create new opportunities and shared, intentional futures in these disrupted spaces.

These changes are not just happening TO music, but also THROUGH music and how it interacts with diverse fields, including medicine, economic systems, physical soundscapes, interfaces, and cultural norms.

Objectives

To explore how music and related social and cultural systems are changing due to technology disruption now and across the next 5 years,

To foster collaboration and dialog around music and social/society/structural change,

To connect and engage with diverse communities around these questions, and

To connect these questions with the core dynamics of the university: supporting and expanding our core work inside UCLA (research and education) and connecting richly with the outside worlds (community and collaboration).
