I had a great time performing on the excellent Wurlitzer organ at the Phipps Center for the Arts yesterday. The incredible (and singularly unique) console of this organ was originally built for Wurlitzer’s instrument at the Oriental Theatre in Mattapan, Boston. Here are some photos. Interestingly, it originally had a “French” styled music desk (rack), but Lyn Larsen designed this lattice one to match the console better, and Carlton B. Smith built it. Very neat! Many thanks to Terry Kleven and Bob Swaney and their team for their hospitality and for their fine tonal work to have the organ singing so beautifully for the program!

As usual, I prepared a brief introduction to highlight this installation's unique setting. A friend of mine dedicated a big chunk of his life to chasing his dream of creating this space and organ. While I've seen many attempts to "put an organ in a barn," few have approached the scale and musicality of this remarkable creation.
