, Thurgood Marshall was named the first Black justice on the U.S. Supreme Court. He served on the court for 24 years.
Before joining the bench, Marshall was one of the nation’s most influential civil rights lawyers. He successfully argued Brown v. Board of Education, the landmark case that ended legal school segregation in the United States.
His legal work helped reshape constitutional rights and expand equal protection under the law.
