MYTH: You should hang up if you accidentally call 911.

FACT: Stay on the line and let the telecommunicator know it was accidental.

Accidental 911 calls happen, but hanging up can create confusion and may result in a callback or dispatch to confirm your safety.

If you call 911 by mistake, the best thing you can do is stay on the line and clearly communicate that there is no emergency.

**FREE Class**

Sometimes, we just feel helpless trying to help others.

Over the last several weeks — and especially after hearing about yet another dispatcher su***de — I found myself revisiting a class I originally built several years ago. At the time, I don’t think the profession was ready for it.

Now, I think we are.

So I went back, updated it, and I’m offering it free, virtually, to anyone in public safety communications who needs it.

Public safety professionals are trained to manage everyone else’s emergencies — often while quietly neglecting themselves in the process.

Between trauma exposure, overtime, emotional suppression, identity tied to performance, and the pressure to always “hold it together,” many telecommunicators eventually find themselves emotionally exhausted, disconnected, and unsure of who they are outside the headset.

This session explores the hidden impact of survival mode, cumulative trauma, and identity loss within emergency communications. Participants will examine how dispatch culture can unintentionally reward self-abandonment while discouraging vulnerability and recovery.

Through honest conversation, guided reflection, and practical strategies, attendees will begin reconnecting with purpose, self-awareness, and the parts of themselves that existed before the profession consumed everything else.

Because burnout is not always about wanting to leave the job.
Sometimes it’s about realizing you’ve lost yourself inside it.

This class is completely free. No gimmicks. No sales pitch.

If you’re struggling, burned out, emotionally numb, or simply trying to remember who you are outside the console — you are welcome here.

And if you know a dispatcher who needs this conversation, please share it with them.

🧡 You matter beyond the headset.
