Peanut butter and jelly go together like Laurel Cove and John R Miller…it’s just a fact. When I saw my buddy Jordan Lee King holding a giant sign last year saying “Where the hell is John R. Miller”, I knew I’d messed up. While I’m a slow learner, I do learn...so we’re beyond thrilled to have our brother John and the band back at LCMF this year.

Raised in the West Virginia panhandle, John has become synonymous with Appalachian storytelling at its most poignant. To this music scene, he’s the pinnacle of songwriting ability….weaving stories and experiences that at times can be blunt and honest and other times metaphysical and abstract. It’s like Hemingway and Hunter S Thompson sat down over a bottle of bourbon and decided to write songs together. That’s the level of quality craftsmanship John brings to the table with his lyrics. A lot of songs can make you feel…John’s can do that, but also make you think. That’s a rare ability, but one that is needed now more than ever.

John R. Miller has had a diverse musical career that has touched a lot of different genres. From his time in legendary old-time band The Fox Hunt, to a more indie-rock project like Prison Book Club, to his current iteration, which is equal parts John Prine and Guy Clark with a modern twist. He’s got a brand new album, “The Great Unknowing”, out on vinyl and CD on June 5th: perfect timing to hear some brand new music from one of our favorite artists of all time.
