Introducing PARADOX ACADEMY!
We’re thrilled to launch Paradox Academy, a brand-new series of online classes from Paradox Opera designed to help singers build skills, confidence, and community.
Our first class, Audition Like a Pro, will be offered in two sessions:
• July 20 at 7:30pm
• August 3 at 7:30pm
Auditioning is a skill—and like any skill, confidence comes with practice. Whether you’re preparing for your first audition or looking to refine your presentation, this interactive class will help you put your best artistry forward.
✨ Singers and observers are both welcome!
🎵 Singers will perform a live mock audition and receive personalized feedback from Executive Artistic Director & soprano Alissa Roca and singer & voice teacher Christopher Fotis.
👀 Not ready to sing? Observe the coaching process, learn what works, and pick up practical audition tips you can apply to your own performances.
Each class includes:
• An overview of audition best practices
• Live mock auditions with coaching
• An open Q&A on auditions, repertoire, preparation, and the industry
🎟️ Space is limited! To keep the experience interactive, each class is limited to 5 singing participants and 93 observers. Reserve your spot with a minimum $20 donation (singers) or minimum $5 donation (observers). Every registration supports Paradox Opera, and if you’re able, you can make an additional donation at checkout to help us create even more educational programming.
Whether you’re stepping into the audition room or watching from the audience, you’ll leave with practical tools, greater confidence, and a deeper understanding of what makes a successful audition.

Happy July, Paradox People! 🎉
As a new fiscal year begins, we’re looking back at everything we accomplished during our 2025–26 season—and ahead to an even bigger future.
[BLANK] kicked off our season in August, inviting audiences to interpret the poetry of Langston Hughes and Bob Dylan, set to music by Ricky Ian Gordon and John Corigliano, and give the concert its own title and meaning.
In October, our Twitch Raid Train fundraiser raised over $10,000 in just four days, ending with a live Halloween mini-concert thanks to supporters around the world!
November brought the launch of Fandom of the Opera, our podcast celebrating classical music, nerd culture, and where they collide. Fourteen episodes in, it’s available everywhere you get podcasts, with bonus content on Patreon.
December’s Madrigal Madness delivered gorgeous polyphony, historical humor, delicious treats, and a refreshing alternative to the usual holiday programming.
In April, we produced our biggest show yet: Next to Normal. Only our second fully staged production, it marked a huge leap in scale while showcasing the powerful performances Paradox Opera is known for.
June wrapped up with Don Giovanni (Abridged!), Broadway After Dark, and the Ham Jam celebrating the Hamilton tour’s 750th performance. We also spent the month meeting new audiences by tabling at events across the Triangle.
We’re still a young company, but our mission remains the same: bring world-class performances to new audiences and prove opera is a living, vibrant art form.
And we’re just getting started. This January we’ll premiere The Genders of Gybberidge, an original operetta celebrating q***r identity, solidarity, and love. To bring it to life—and ensure every artist is paid fairly—we need to raise $100,000 by the end of the year.
Every donation, one-time or monthly, brings us closer. If you believe in our mission and want to help shape the future of opera, please donate today. 💜
