The founder of A Simpler Time grew up in a large, 10 child family in a small Midwestern town, living a typical 60’s and 70’s Norman Rockwell childhood of fishing, bike riding and playing whatever sport was in season at the time.

In 1997 he abandoned (with some protest from a usually understanding wife) the security of a great job managing a small national retail chain to pursue a dream he had...to open a retail store that somehow brought back those carefree childhood days he remembered.

There was a slight issue at the time of a two year old toddler son and identical twin daughters about to be born. Oh, and the teensy problem of little money. But a temporary lease was found in country’s largest mall (Mall of America in Minnesota), credit cards were charged to the hilt, and by September of that year A Simpler Time was up and running. Over 20 years later, we’re still around...and still having fun!

Our store in New Orleans, with pedal cars, six foot tall sailboats, wind up toys and Glenn Miller music playing in the background, is designed to send customers back to the slower pace of yesteryear. Over the years we’ve developed a large presence on-line as well (www.asimplertime.com), and hope you’ll think of us for some of your gift giving needs.
