On what would have been John Fauser’s 86th birthday, we fondly remember his very integral part of Morton Softball’s past success. We are honored to announce our Morton Softball Alumni and Fans sponsorship of Field 2 to annually become John Fauser Field.
John was a lifelong sports fixture in central Illinois and his deep passion for sports was a family affair. A standout three-sport athlete at Woodruff High School, he attended Iowa State and Bradley University on athletic scholarships before spending his career in regional sales.
He was best known for his 30-plus years as a premier pitching and travel coach, working with hundreds of fast-pitch players and helping to drive Morton High School softball to five straight IHSA State Class AA trophies. Many of his players went on to successful high school, college, and Major Women’s Fast Pitch careers. Of course, arguably the best pitcher to come from John’s tutelage was his daughter Ashley.
John passed away on February 17, 2011 leaving an indelible mark on the community and generations of local athletes. He was preceded in death by his father Raymond and his son, Donald and since his death we have lost his mother Mary and his beloved wife Penny. Although he has been gone 15 years, his legacy is strongly carried on by his surviving family, former players, and his pitchers.
To sustain this annual field naming sponsorship and directly invest in the Field 2 upgrades needed for future generations of players, the Morton Girls Softball Association, Inc. (MGSA) has created a No Place Like Home Field Drive with a secure Square link for tax deductible online donations (one time or annual recurring) or an option to mail donations to: MGSA PO Box 67 Morton IL 61550. The MGSA is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization.
Please feel free to share memories and photos.
