A recent study of 2,000 Americans found that, on average, they checked their phones about 80 times every day when they are on vacation, with some participants indicating they look at their mobile devices as much as 300 times a day, or nearly 20 times an hour. Participants in another study “touched” their phones more than 2,600 times daily, on average, with half saying they check them if they get up in the middle of the night.

Smartphones are commonly perceived as an integral tool to increase productivity in the fast-paced modern world. But do they really accomplish that task?
