“Even before the pandemic, I had gotten used to working remotely for over three years and being the one person who called in while everyone else was in the room. I used to voluntarily travel every other month to Redmond, to stay connected with my team and partners.

When the new SVC campus opened, I wasn't so sure about leaving my personalized space. I had just upgraded to make my home office more inspiring and comfortable to work from. I was unsure about going in, but I gave it a try.

Now I've found a good rhythm, and I now do three and a half days in the office. I bring a few pieces from home to make it feel more like me.

I've organized my office schedule around coworker interaction, something I've really missed even pre-Covid. I come in Monday for half the day and run with coworkers on the Shoreline trail. I spend full days in the office Tuesday through Thursday and break up the day with coffee/juice breaks and lunches with new people.

Although I'm coming to ten years at Microsoft in May, it feels like a new start for me, as I'm finally meeting others, and am energized by the change.” — Hyan Kim, Free to Paid Customer Journey Lead on the M365 Subscription team at Microsoft.

Throughout the month of May, the Military at Microsoft ERG recognizes and the sacrifices that members of our community make in service.

Members put service before themselves, giving important years of their life to the military and spending precious time away from family, friends, and their home.

Words, while important, can sometimes fall short in expressing gratitude for this level of commitment. Service members want to return from their service respected, supported, and proud. More than anything, they want opportunities to succeed and thrive in their post-military life.

For Military Appreciation Month, we all have an opportunity at Microsoft to listen and learn from employees who have served so that we can go beyond words to become better allies to the military community.
