Providence

A small crowd honoring veterans on a sunny Saturday morning was found at Beech Grove Cemetery.
Providence was mentioned more than once by Tim Overton, a U.S. Air Force Reserves chaplain during the ceremony.
Overton told the story of George Washington who was not killed in battle during the French and Indian War when he had two horses shot out from under him and four bullet holes in his jacket, destined by providence to lead.
Washington later led the Revolutionary War against the British and was the first president of the United States, again some believed by providence.
Amid that rifle salute and Taps played by the Delaware County Honor Guard, we remember our father and grandfather who served in the Army during world wars of the last century. We also honored our friend Ron Charlton, a Navy veteran, who just passed and are among others resting at Beech Grove.
Others who passed since the last Veterans Day were Billy Arnold, Charles McCammon, George Yingst, John Campbell, Estes Mitchell, David Westbrook Jr., Frederick Wilkerson, Orin Bennett, Richard Hardman, and Cynthia Gillum.
Many throughout the country on Saturday celebrated the the 11th day of the 11th month of the 11th year when the Armistice was signed ending World War I in 1918.
It is a sacrifice to serve, Overton said, while honoring those who died in the fight for freedom.
