If they don’t show up on the state website, THEY DO NOT HAVE A VALID LICENSE, no matter what. Many people claim to be licensed and insured, yet have no type of contractor license

NEVER PAY MORE THAN 1/3 UPFRONT!

Many companies will ask for half down or cost of materials upfront. This is Illegal in Tennessee and if a company asks for more, it’s best to move on.

Get a signed contract!

Are they a local company with a good reputation? Do they have a physical location?

Check out reviews and other work they have completed.

Never pay cash! Always pay with either Check, credit card, or debit card so you have proof of payment and can take recourse if something goes wrong.
