Local volunteers with Garden City-Surfside SCUTE have been walking the shores before dawn and after dusk, monitoring nests, relocating some when needed, and documenting light violations. They have seen real improvement since the South Carolina Environmental Law Project sent notices to property management companies, yet around 40 structures are still not in full compliance.
