Did you know that the gardenia is named for Dr. Alexander
Garden, (1730-1791), who became the most well-known naturalist in 18th century South Carolina?
Dr. Garden was also a special friend to Eliza Lucas Pinckney, the famous “Indigo Girl”, as they shared an interest in horticultural experimentation.
