What is the purpose of the FMCSA?

FMCSA stands for Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. The primary mission of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is to reduce crashes, injuries and fatalities involving large trucks and buses.

This agency monitors the trucking carriers, enforcing the safety rules and regulations. They develop the standards for testing and licensing Commercial Motor Vehicle drivers. FMCSA creates and enforces road safety rules for truck drivers across the U.S. FMCSA targets educational messages to carriers, commercial drivers, and the public. FMCSA harnesses safety information systems to focus on higher risk carriers in enforcing the safety regulations and partners with stakeholders including Federal, State, and local enforcement agencies, the motor carrier industry, safety groups, and organized labor on efforts to reduce bus and truck-related crashes.

The FMCSA has a very wide reach over motor carriers. It regulates approximately 521,000 freight motor carriers, 13,000 passenger carriers, 17,000 intrastate-only hazardous materials carriers, and approximately 4 million active CDL holders. With such a large reach, the FMCSA’s work is essential to crash prevention. It estimates that it prevents roughly 15,000 crashes per year, because of these programs. This saves roughly 500 lives a year.

We are looking for a skilled Auto Mechanic to maintain and repair vehicles. You will be responsible for troubleshooting issues and fixing them aiming to maximum reliability and functionality.

An excellent auto mechanic has good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. They are well-versed in complex mechanical or electronical systems of vehicles and have excellent problem-solving abilities. They must also be good communicators to provide advice to customers. Responsibilities
· Inspect vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately

· Inspect vehicle computer and electronic systems to repair, maintain and upgrade

· Conduct routine maintenance work (replacing fluids, lubricating parts etc.) aiming to vehicle functionality and longevity

· Schedule future maintenance sessions and advise motorists on good vehicle use

· Repair or replace broken or dysfunctional parts and fix issues (e.g. leaks)

· Provide accurate estimates (cost, time, effort) for a repair or maintenance job Keep logs on work and issues

· Maintain equipment and tools in good condition
Requirements
· Proven experience as auto mechanic

· Excellent knowledge of mechanical, electrical and electronic components of vehicles

· Working knowledge of vehicle diagnostic systems and methods

· Ability to handle various tools (e.g. pliers) and heavy equipment (e.g. lift)

· Willingness to observe all safety precautions for protections against accidents, dangerous fluids, chemicals etc.

· Excellent physical condition

· High school diploma is preferred; Certification from a vocational school or completion of apprenticeship is preferred

· Valid certification (e.g ASE) is a definite plus'
