Nimba County Superintendent Kou Meapeh Gono Responds to Karplay City Mayor's Appeal

By Christopher G. Fahn

Ganta City, Nimba.....County | Friday, July 10, 2026 – Nimba County Superintendent Kou Meapeh Gono has responded to concerns raised by the Mayor of Karplay City regarding the challenges facing the city's administration, emphasizing that significant efforts have already been made by the county to support Karnplay's development.
The Superintendent's response follows a public appeal by the Mayor of Karplay City, who recently highlighted the lack of office space, equipment, transportation, furniture, and other essential logistics needed for the effective operation of the city corporation.

Responding to the concerns, Superintendent Gono acknowledged that challenges exist but stressed that the county has not neglected Karplay City.
"There are challenges, Lord Mayor, but after your lawmakers appealed for support to build a City Hall for Karnplay, the Nimba County Council approved US$100,000 to complement the city's development efforts," Superintendent Gono stated.
She explained that the construction of a modern City Hall is expected to strengthen the city's institutional capacity while creating opportunities to improve local revenue generation.
"I expect that such a hall will help Karnplay City raise revenue. Therefore, to say there has been no support from stakeholders to the city is unrealistic," she added.
Superintendent Gono also drew comparisons with other municipalities in Nimba County, noting that Ganta City is expected to receive a similar facility, while Tappita City has already begun benefiting from its infrastructure investments through improved revenue generation.

She expressed optimism that once completed, Karnplay's City Hall will play a vital role in enhancing local governance, improving service delivery, and promoting sustainable development within the city.

The exchange comes amid growing public discussions on the need for increased logistical and financial support for local governments across Nimba County, as city authorities continue to seek resources to effectively deliver services to residents.

Superintendent Gono reaffirmed her administration's commitment to working with city authorities, lawmakers, the County Council, and development partners to ensure that municipalities across Nimba continue to receive the support needed to advance development and improve the lives of citizens.

Karnplay City Mayor Daybah Zain Appeals for Government Support Amid Operational Challenges

By Christopher G. Fahn

KARNPLAY CITY, Nimba County | Friday, July 10, 2026 – The Mayor of Karnplay City, Daybah Zain, has made an urgent appeal to the Government of Liberia and development partners for support, citing severe logistical and administrative challenges facing the Karnplay City Corporation.

According to Mayor Zain, the city administration has been operating without a functional office since assuming leadership, making it difficult to effectively discharge its responsibilities and provide essential public services to residents.

Speaking on the challenges confronting the city government, Mayor Zain disclosed that repeated requests for assistance have been submitted to relevant authorities, but little or no support has been received.

"We have no office to operate from. We don't have chairs, office stationery, or even a motorcycle to facilitate our daily work and movement. We have appealed to our supervisors and other authorities, but unfortunately, no one has come to our aid," Mayor Zain said.

He emphasized that despite these difficulties, the city administration remains committed to serving the people of Karnplay and continues to perform its duties with the limited resources available.

Mayor Zain also expressed hope that the government and well-meaning citizens would intervene to improve the city's working conditions. He noted that providing basic logistical support would significantly enhance the corporation's ability to deliver services and promote development within the city.

"We continue to wait for better days," he added, stressing that effective local governance requires adequate tools, equipment, and a conducive working environment.

The Mayor's appeal highlights the broader challenges faced by some local government institutions across Liberia, where inadequate infrastructure and limited logistical support continue to affect the delivery of public services.

Residents and stakeholders are expected to closely monitor the government's response to the Mayor's appeal as calls grow for increased investment in local governance and community development.
