Sustainable agricultural transformation in West Africa requires strong partnerships, shared commitments, and coordinated action.

The ECOWAS Commission and IFDC will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to renew and strengthen their cooperation in support of the ECOWAS Agricultural Policy (ECOWAP) and, particularly, the implementation of the Lomé Declaration on Fertilizers and Soil Health in West Africa and the Sahel.

This strategic partnership will provide a stronger framework for collaboration on sustainable agriculture, healthy soils, and resilient food systems. It will also facilitate the implementation of the Soil Values program by strengthening regional coordination, knowledge sharing, and joint efforts to promote sustainable soil fertility management across the region.

New paper from the IFDC Research team – Fertilizer and Soil Health for Sustained Crop Production in Sub-Saharan Africa!

This paper explores the urgent need to increase agricultural production in sub-Saharan Africa to ensure food and nutrition security for its growing population.

The authors suggest key soil health indicators and examine the three-way interactions between mineral fertilizer, crop productivity, and soil health.
