Exodus 22:2-3 ESV
[2] If a thief is found breaking in and is struck so that he dies, there shall be no bloodguilt for him, [3] but if the sun has risen on him, there shall be bloodguilt for him. He shall surely pay. If he has nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.

I want to pass this scripture off to Christians and remind them that there is a such thing as righteous violence. You are allowed to protect yourself and Defending those who are vulnerable is a consistent theme in the Bible.
When Jesus gives the following teaching

Matthew 5:38-39 ESV
[38] “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ [39] But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.

HE SPEAKS OF VENGEANCE. Do not seek vengeance for wrong doing. This verse has nothing to do with having to protect yourself or the innocent. Our lives and the lives of those around us are gifts. We are given then by God and to easily give up that life to an evil threat without a fight is taking our gift of life for granted.

DO NOT SIT IN THE PEW unprepared and wait for violence to come to you. Train yourself to be able to protect yourself and the innocent around you. You are not sinning by doing so.
