Day Four – The Truth About FAM Trips & “FREE” Travel ✈️

Ah yes… the famous “free travel” and FAM conversation. 😅 This can be a sensitive topic because the reality of FAM trips and travel perks has changed A LOT over the years.

Years ago, suppliers often handed out free FAM opportunities left and right. Travel advisors could explore the world. Fast forward to today… those days are mostly gone.

Now, before you panic - there IS still good news. 👏
Travel Advisor rates and FAM opportunities absolutely still exist but they usually come with conditions and restrictions.

✔️ Travel Advisor rates are often available, though discounts can range from “wow!” to “well… at least it covered parking.” 😂
✔️ FAM trips are typically allocated based on production - either yours or your host agency’s. Suppliers may only offer 1 or 2 spots to an agency and if you’re with a mega host agency, competition can be fierce unless you’re already a top producer.
✔️ Some suppliers also require you to have sold a certain number of bookings within the last 12 months before qualifying.

And one more important truth…FAM trips are rarely completely FREE.

Sometimes the land portion is covered or partially covered but airfare is not and suddenly that “free” trip comes with a price tag that makes your wallet cry a little. 😬

We’re not sharing this to discourage anyone from becoming a Travel Advisor. Quite the opposite. 💙 We believe in setting realistic expectations because too many host agencies use “free travel and FAM Trips” as the shiny sales pitch, when sometimes it’s more smoke and mirrors than reality.

Do your research. Ask questions. And remember - bigger host agency isn’t always better.
