Our thoughts and prayers are with our brothers and sisters in MoCo Maryland during this difficult time.

Thank you to our friends at the beach for inviting us along with Ladder 1 (Socastee) to get some reps in.

At 6:09 a.m., Horry County Fire Rescue was dispatched to a multi-unit structure fire at 6001 S. Kings Hwy. in Surfside Beach.

A third alarm was sent.

The fire is now under control.

11 units sustained damage. Two destroyed, one with heavy damage, and eight other units with fire and heat exposure.

One person suffered minor injuries and was treated on scene.

Three displaced residents will be offered assistance from American Red Cross of South Carolina.

This fire will be under investigation.

We want to thank Surfside Beach Fire Dept. Murrells Inlet-Garden City Fire District and Horry County Police Department for their on-scene assistance, and and Myrtle Beach Fire Department for providing coverage.

Approximately 70 first responders were on scene in response.

The Horry County Fire Rescue family is heartbroken this morning, having lost Battalion Chief James Cyganiewicz.

Cyganiewicz was a volunteer with Horry County for several years before becoming a career member in 1993, serving as the HCFR Investigation Unit's Chief Investigator and most recently earning the title of Battalion Chief.

We ask for your consideration, thoughts and prayers for Cyganiewicz's family, friends, loved ones and extended public safety family during this difficult time.
