Another day, another turtle injury. This one was found on Polpis road just past the Life Saving museum. That is another tragic spot for turtles. Please always drive aware, but especially in known wildlife crossing areas.
Thank you Justina for getting it off the road and to us. We will keep it over night and get it to rehab tomorrow.
4 baby wrens were discovered on a trailer that came over on the Steamship Authority from the Cape. They weren’t discovered until the trailer was being dropped off.
They are on their way back over to the Cape thanks to Hyline Cruises and Wild Care Cape Cod! Many that’s to our Cape team mate Joyce Rogliano who drives our animals to rehab!!
Our teammate Jennifer Farris told the team about a dangerous hotspot for turtles crossing. When we were putting up turtle crossing signs, we found one that had just been run over.
It’s on the Hyline Cruises now heading to Cape Wildlife Center for treatment.
Please slow down, and drive aware!
It is a horrifying and surreal sight to see a bird hung up in fishing line flailing around in circles from a tree.
Lucky for this Black-crowned night heron, our team mate Dave Montanile
spotted it and was able to cut it free. He then kept it overnight until we could get it to rehab this morning.
Many thanks to Hyline Cruises and Wild Care Cape Cod for their continued support of Nantucket’s wildlife!!! And a special thanks to our team member and Cape driver Joyce Rogliano who picked the heron up from Hyline and drove an hour in cape traffic to get it to Wildcare.

Please help Wildcare if you can. They help many of Nantucket’s injured animals.
It is full on turtle nesting season! They are coming out of the ponds and looking for prime egg laying sites.
Please drive aware and call us if any turtle is trying to nest in a dangerous spot, also take note of any nests and let us know so we can help protect the site and keep track of the nestlings.

FYI- They prefer dry open soil/sand areas which coincides with human structures and roads.

Nantucket Animal Rescue is looking for volunteers.
Nantucket Animal Rescue is an amazing organization that is run entirely by volunteers. We help thousands of Nantucket’s wildlife every year.
We are looking for more volunteers to help Nantucket’s animals. There are many different rolls that are needed, from hands on rescues to administrative work.
No experience necessary, but a love of animals is a must. Please message us if you are interested in helping.
Please share this post.
Great info. Please watch so you can safely save a turtle.
This is just not ok. So many animals die in storm drains everyday, ducklings, goslings, fledglings, mice, squirrels, and rabbits.
Please help us figure out a solution to save our wildlife. Message us with ideas!
