On Wednesday, June 17, from 7 to 8pm, join financial expert Rich Sotell, CFP, for a conversation that goes beyond the basics. What is money, really, and why does it hold value? From the psychology of spending to the mathematics of investing and inflation, Sotell will explore the scientific principles shaping the financial systems we navigate every day.

Sotell brings five decades of experience in the financial industry and has been recognized by the Financial Times as a Top 401 Retirement Advisor.

Free and open to the community. Pre-registration required via our calendar.

AURORA WATCH

There is a decent probability of auroral activity tonight on Nantucket according to our Astronomer Jackie Milingo.

Find a dark spot with low light pollution and a clear view of the northern sky. Ideal viewing window: 10pm–2am. Visibility depends on cloud cover.

If you can’t see anything with the naked eye, try your phone camera (no flash, 3–10 second exposure) as it captures far more light than we can.

For real-time updates, check the Aurora Dashboard maintained by the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center: noaa.gov/aurora

As Aurora’s past, we would love to see your pictures, like this one from Fall by Cara Perry. Tag us.

Full weekly schedule up this week, as we put the finishing touches on opening our seasonal properties for you!

STARGAZING AT LOINES OBSERVATORY

Step out to enjoy Nantucket’s night sky with us! Our seasonal properties re-open June 11; and on Friday, June 12, join MMA astronomers for an Open Night Stargazing session at Loines Observatory… one of the island’s most storied scientific landmarks.

Pop by after dinner, from 9:30 to 10:30 PM, to explore the cosmos through our historic 8-inch Alvan Clark refractor and modern 24-inch research telescope. The Moon, planets, star clusters, nebulae, and distant galaxies await.

Our astronomers and NEW summer interns will walk you through cutting-edge research and answer every question you bring under the stars.

Teens and adults, with children welcome alongside a registered adult guardian. Arrive 10 minutes early and dress for the evening air… this one happens outside.

Pre-registration recommended.
Adults $27 / Youth $17 / Members free.
