The second annual Nantucket Police Charitable Association “Runnin for a Cause, Not from the Cops” 5K road race, held on May 16th, 2026 at Surfside Beach, was another success, drawing over 120 participants, both local and visiting runners, to the start line.
The race was held as a fundraiser for the Nantucket Police Charitable, with all monies raised to be used to provide help and assistance to the members of the Nantucket Police Department and the residents of the Town of Nantucket exclusively for charitable and educational purposes.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the generous businesses who sponsored our 5K road race — your support made this event possible and successful. Your commitment to our community is truly appreciated.
A special thank you also goes out to our incredible volunteers. Your time, energy, and enthusiasm helped everything run smoothly and made the day enjoyable for everyone involved.
Thank you to Brownie Troop 77472 who provided amazing support and cheering at the water station.
We couldn’t have done it without you!

Yesterday, the Nantucket Police Department held an award ceremony recognizing officers for their exceptional service.
Life Saving Medal:
Officer Farrell Duce
Officer Matthew Drumheller
Certificate of Commendation:
Detective Keith Mansfield
Officer Andrew McNeilly
On January 22, 2026, a 911 call was received reporting an unresponsive woman at 11 Crooked Lane. Members of the Nantucket Fire Department were dispatched. Officers Duce and Drumheller, who were monitoring the fire channel and were in the immediate area, heard the call and responded without hesitation. Upon arrival, staff from Offshore Animal Hospital were already providing critical early care. The officers quickly took over, finding the patient unresponsive and not breathing. They immediately initiated CPR, deployed their defibrillator, and delivered a life-saving shock. When Nantucket Fire Department personnel arrived, all responders worked together to continue care. Prior to transport, the individual regained a pulse. Officers Duce and Drumheller’s rapid response and decisive actions ensured that life-saving care was delivered at the most critical moment. Their efforts, in partnership with community members and the Nantucket Fire Department, directly resulted in a life saved.
In 2026, Detective Keith Mansfield and Officer Andrew McNeilly volunteered to revitalize the Department’s Citizen Police Academy outreach program. This program, which had not been offered since 2019, was held weekly on Monday evenings from January through March and concluded with a graduation ceremony on March 16, where 14 community members successfully completed the program. Detective Mansfield and Officer McNeilly embraced this initiative with energy and commitment. They ensured that all materials were current and reflective of present-day operations and advancements in policing and technology. They also designed a program that was engaging and interactive for participants. Throughout the program, participants had the opportunity to take part in hands-on activities, meet a wide range of department personnel, and participate in a ride-along with an officer. These experiences provided meaningful insight into the work of the department and strengthened connections with the community. Their professionalism, enthusiasm, and dedication were evident throughout the program’s success.
