I know I already posted about The Child Led Autism Summit, but in case you missed it -

August 18th-20th I will be a speaker for The Child Led Autism Summit. Tickets are free! The summit topics are dedicated to educating about child-led approaches to therapy and teaching. It’s perfect for professionals and parents. All presentations are pre-recorded so you can pick and choose which topics feel interesting to you!

This has made me think about the time one of my high schoolers told me I was a Chaotic Good. I didn’t know what that meant lol. It’s a Dungeons and Dragons alignment that means a character is good-hearted and tries to do what is right but doesn’t always adhere to rules or societal norms. If you know me professionally, you know that’s A) a huge compliment in regards to my therapuetic philosophies and B ) probably pretty accurate. This was a huge confirmation that I was switching my therapy style to embrace neurodiversity and the natural ways my students’ brains worked. They saw it and felt it also.

If you want to be viewed as a Chaotic Good for your students too, I highly recommend signing up for this summit!

I was at Walmart this week and found...this. Each April I hope for better. Baby steps, I suppose! Just a reminder - advocacy should amplify autistic voices, teach true acceptance, and promote authenticity 🧩🚫

Here at The Comunication Classroom, we support authenticity and self-advocacy! We listen to the populations we service!

(also if you see any typos - no you didn't 😂)

I am very passionate about neurodiversity and education/advocacy for brains that work differently. A huge piece of this is sharing about how my brain works, what I need to best access my environment, and relating it to my students for other professionals. I had the awesome opportunity to share about my diagnostic journey with Dan at The Aspie World. This conversation was supposed to dig deeper into how I mask, how I’m learning to unmask, and more. However, in true ADHD fashion, we got a little off topic 🤪 but the information and experiences shared here are great insight still into neurodivergent brains.

We often associate AAC with nonspeaking individuals. However, we all use forms of AAC. Texting, emails/letters, gestures, facial expressions are all ways we can communicate without using our spoken language.

The Communication Classroom believes that ALL individuals should know their options when it comes to multi-modal communication. We are happy to help you, or a loved one, explore different options of communication. We strive to make augmentative and alternative communication accessible to individuals who are nonspeaking, limitedly speaking, and unreliably speaking.
