Annually, the City of Naples Utilities Department temporarily changes the disinfection process for the Cityโs potable (drinking water) water supply as part of water quality maintenance.
Beginning ๐๐จ๐ง๐๐๐ฒ, ๐๐ฎ๐ง๐ ๐, ๐๐๐๐, ๐ญ๐ก๐ซ๐จ๐ฎ๐ ๐ก ๐๐ฎ๐๐ฌ๐๐๐ฒ, ๐๐ฎ๐ง๐ ๐๐, ๐๐๐๐, the Utilities Department will disinfect the water with free chlorine rather than combined chlorine/ammonia (chloramines).
This annual conversion to free chlorine (a stronger disinfectant) from chloramines (a longer-lasting disinfectant) allows a water distribution system purge as recommended by the Department of Environmental Protection for water utilities using chloramines as their primary disinfectant.

This temporary change in disinfectant does not cause adverse health effects. However, during the period, customers may experience a slight increase in the taste and odor of the water due to the change in treatment.
