🔬🥤 Bear Den Super Science Badge

Our Needham Pack 4 Bear Den had an explosive (and educational!) afternoon earning their Super Science adventure badge.

The scouts ran the classic Mentos + soda geyser experiment, turning it into a real science investigation. Each group of scouts came up with a hypothesis about which soda would create the biggest eruption and then tested it using different soda types — including Coke vs. Pepsi.

In total we launched about:

🥤 744 ounces of soda (about 5.8 gallons)
🍬 Two Costco cases of Mentos — roughly 600+ individual Mentos used for experiments

The scouts worked in teams to:
• Form a hypothesis
• Run the experiment
• Observe the results
• Compare eruptions between soda types

Some eruptions were much bigger than others!

We also practiced Leave No Trace by cleaning up the entire area so it looked just like it did before we arrived.

👏 14 Bear Scouts participated and all earned their Super Science badge.

Science + teamwork + a little bit of soda geyser chaos = a great learning!

Tigers got jump start in their Magic badge at the Needham Public Library with a free magic show that the scouts really enjoyed.

Congratulations to our bear den (third graders) and their families for building games for our entire Pack. Bears prepared games, manned the stations, gave out prizes. All scouts earned a custom bear carnival pack. Special thanks to Temple Beth Shalom for hosting our large group.

We are so proud to share that 9 Cub Scouts from Needham Pack 4 were among the Top 100 popcorn sellers in the Spirit of Adventure Council and earned an awesome reward — a trip to Dave & Buster’s for being top sellers in the Council! 🥳

The Spirit of Adventure Council serves over 75 communities and towns across the Greater Boston area, giving thousands of Scouts amazing opportunities for adventure and leadership all year long.
