The Miner’s Picnic is this Saturday! Great fun for the whole family. Bring your picnic and blanket and enjoy all the festivities.

The Miners’ Picnic, established in 1895 to support families of deceased miners, offers you a chance to explore the life and times of being a miner at the Empire Mine.

During the event, hear mining stories from Orlo Steele, the last living Empire Mines miner, and watch hard rock mining equipment demonstrations. Children can enjoy historic games, while you picnic on the historic grounds and enjoy live music from local groups.

This year, don’t miss the Mine Disaster Rescue melodrama, featuring a reenactment of the 1888 explosion complete with a vintage fire truck.

On Saturday, August 23rd the park opens at 10:00 a.m., with activities starting at 11:00 a.m. Ice cream, hot dogs, and Cornish pasties will be available for purchase, or bring your own lunch and picnic blanket.
