Union Point Park Development

I unequivocally oppose commercial development of any portion of Union Point Park. Going forward I will advocate and work for preserving UPP and making use of any further legal and preservationist tools we can identify to ensure that later Mayors and later Boards cannot go down this same path without insuperable hurdles in their way.

In all such matters I am committed to maximizing the recreational and green space available to the People of this city as much as possible consistent with our population & usage, geographic distribution & equitability factors, and budget constraints.

It is not our streets that are the arteries of this living city. It is our parks, our playgrounds, our greenways, our gathering spaces that unite us into one People. These are the vital paths of this body politic and I am committed to their preservation.

This is a perfect example of the systemic biases that, no matter how much effort we expend (which we must), no system will ever be rid of. This is why I support the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion plan put forward by the The New Bern People's Assembly. Let's put a target on the problem and get New Bern back to working for all its people
